Let me rephrase this. Maybe I should call it: “The sad truth about MOST Instagram promoters”. Today, I’m going to outline a very popular promotional page on Instagram that promises to get artists more traffic to their posts. Because I don’t want to stop anyone from getting money, I will not be informing you all of the exact page that is doing this scam. However, I will be showing you how to deduce (SAT word, I read a book last week 😀) for yourself whether or not a page is getting legit traffic or not. So this page has over 70,000 followers and averages between 5,000-10,000 views per video. SO FAR SO GOOD, RIGHT? 5,000 views per video with that amount of followers is pretty decent engagement. But let’s take a closer look at it. I wonder… the views are great, but how many likes does this post have? Probably at least 100 or 200 right? Uhh… 5,000 views but only 24 likes? Well, that’s not so great honestly. It actually stinks. But maybe the post was shown to a ton of people, but the people it reached didn’t love the post. Or maybe…. (what I’m about to say is the actual answer…) MAYBE IT’S BECAUSE THE PAGE WITH 70,000 FOLLOWERS HAS FAKE FOLLOWERS!!! How do I know? I did a little “research” (which literally just consisted of me clicking on a few of their followers profiles). Look what I discovered! Check out the pictures below! These accounts are faker than glutes on an Atlanta exotic dancer. (haha!) If you need me to explain why they are fake (the followers, not the Atlanta Butts) after seeing these pictures... well, you may be a lost cause. However, I'll explain anyway.
#1 They all have spammy names #2 They follow thousands of people and have only a few followers themselves. #3 Will usually only have a few posts, and the pictures will usually be really random. I literally sat and checked out about 50 of their “followers”. I made sure to take huge swipes on my Iphone… And each big swipe I took, every follower I was clicked on was just like the accounts above. What’s worse is that they pretend to be doing artists a favor, like “$5 dollar Fridays” in which they will share your post to their story at a discounted prices. For a permanent post on their page, they charge between $50-80 dollars. Doesn’t sound like a lot huh? Well imagine going to Wal-Mart and paying $1 for a candy bar. You paid the cashier and than instead of giving you the kit-kat that your mouth is watering for, they hand you a brick with doo-doo smeared on it. (Yes I said “Doo Doo”) Would you be upset? Would you care that it was “ONLY” $1? Or are you like most people and want to get what they paid for, and not be cheated out of their money? Your goal was to get more exposure and real fans, not bot traffic. Sucks doesn’t it? I know friends, I know. *Virtually pats you on the back*. So what should you do instead? Who can you trust in the music industry that’s full of snakes?!?! Well, I have two answers for you.
Until next time, see ya.
