Hello gang! In today's blog we'll be discussing why it is absolutely necessary to have your own website. Let's dive right into the good shiz :)
Ok, so I'm an old school playa, so I remember cool social media platforms that you young bucks don't know anything about. I used to have all the fly honey's on blackplanet.com (back when I had AOL messenger and dial-up internet at my mama's house). I also remember MYSPACE. Man!!! The golden days. I remember being in people's top 8's and feeling like I was on top of the world. I built a music page on there and was doing great with networking. And then poof! One day... and I mean suddenly. Myspace was a engulfed by a new, more popular platform... Twitter. Remember vine?
Many influencers built massive followings on vine and then... (read this in a very sad voice) she was just... she was just gone! Dang, remember how poppin Snapchat was a few years ago? There's still a ton of people that use it, but there are without a doubt fewer active users on the platform today.
Now everyone's on TikTok and Instagram. But dawg, what if these platforms die down? Hold up, let's change directions. I know a girl that built a pretty solid following on Instagram (maybe about 8,000 followers or so). One day out of the blue, some guy hacks her account and she never recovered it. She had to start all over. This sadly enough could happen to anyone.
So how can you protect yourself and stay in touch with your supporters? How can you post what you want to post, and not have to worry about Instagram deleting your projects? HAVE YOUR OWN WEBSITE. By having your own website, you can communicate with your supporters more intimately, provide giveaways for them, provide them with exclusive content, and most importantly... YOU CAN CUT OUT THE MIDDLE MAN. Want to sell your album for $20 directly off of your website? Sure thing, go right ahead. So what if only 50 people buy it!? That's $1,000 fam. Want to develop an online class to give back to the community? Yep. Do it from your website. Want to blog or network, or charge people for ad space on your page? Yep. Do it from your website. And the best part? It won't suddenly fade away just because a new social media platform has come along. Heck, this website that I'm writing this from is only $12.00 a month!!!! Shoutout to Weebly. You guys are the bomb diggity (do people still say that?) Anyways, I'll be releasing some more content over on my Youtube channel. If you haven't subscribed yet...
So... suck a little less and sub here:
Until the next time...

Let me start by saying this. We've all seen them. We've all experienced them. And most of us usually roll our eyes when we see someone doing it. What am I speaking of? People who spam your comment section. If you are in fact, one of these people that do this, I'm going to tell you why it is a waste of time. I usually get a few of these under each of my Instagram posts. "Check me out bruh, I just dropped a new video" "Dm Me!" "I'm the hottest rapper in my city, come to my page to find out why!" In order to understand why this is a total waste of time, we need to study our own viewing habits. Let me ask you a serious question. someone you don't know just randomly dm'd you a link to a video, or commented that you should check them out... When people self-promote under your posts, do you actually go to their desired link? Most likely not. Or if you have, you most certainly ignore them more than you click on them. We all make fun of people on Instagram who offer people "animated art covers" because they are literally under every post. Here's a news flash: If you're self promoting under other people's posts... you've now become the animated art cover guy. Not only will most people ignore it, but it also comes across as rude. I get messages all the time from people saying.. "Follow me and check out my music". Let's evaluate this. I should take time out of my schedule to check out some random rapper, whom I do not know, and who does not follow me, and who has not checked out any of my music first? Why would I do that? Think about it this way. There are literally hundreds of thousands of artists on Instagram. Literally. People don't have to go out of their way to find new music or new artists. Most of the time, they'll find them naturally or through word of mouth. Because of this, they will usually ignore a random message or comment from someone that they have not been exposed to yet. Let me tell you a better way to go about it. Naturally engage with posts that you like on Instagram (or whatever platform you are on.) Take the time to leave thoughtful comments (Not just that "yo this is fire, check me out fam") type of BS comment. Leave a comment that is related to the post that you are commenting on. Do you know what will happen? Most of the time, the people will naturally come over to your page and check out your music. Why? Because you've now added value to them. Instead of using them, you're NETWORKING. how else can i naturally get more attention to my page/music?Run ads. Simple. Master Facebook/Instagram/Youtube ads. By doing this, you'll never even have to ask anyone to check out your music. Why? Because through ads, you'll reach thousands of people everyday. Easy Peezy! Want to learn how to run ads? Cool. I'm working on a course for that. I'll have it ready for you all soon. Need help advertising or naturally increasing your online presence? Send me a message or email my team at [email protected] Oh yea... by the way.. if you didn't know. I rap too :) Check this out Kayo Out. |
