It's so simple. Not easy. But simple.
Yes, you read the title correctly. I'm going to give you a tidbit on growing a fan base locally. In 2020 and beyond, you can literally go viral overnight or through blow up via social media campaigns. However, it is still important to have a grassroots following, and have an impact in your own community.
So how do you get new fans everyday locally? How can you become a well known commodity in your own hood? Easy. Watch this video below.
SIMPLE, YET EFFECTIVE HUSTLE
Go to some of your favorite stores (Walmart, the mall, college campuses, etc). If Covid is still going on, be sure to still practice social distancing (which will make this method a little more akward).
Go up to people and introduce yourself and let them know what you do. Before Covid, I would walk up to a group of people and say "I'm kayo! I just dropped a new song that hit the radio! I'm trying to earn a few new supporters everyday, and I'm hoping you'd be one!" âI'd usually have a portable speaker with me or at least have my cell phone cued up to start playing one of my songs. I'd play like 30 seconds to a minute of the song and then ask if they would consider following me on Instagram. I would then hand them business cards with all of my information and social media links of it. What's next? Rinse & Repeat. In the clip above, I visited Four Seasons Mall in Greensboro. I talked to groups of people for about an hour before heading home. I ended up getting close to 100 new followers that day. Now imagine if you did this 2-3 days a week at different areas around your city. Slowly but surely, you'd grow quite a buzz locally. Try this method and let me know how it works for you!
